Well folks, the time has come, launch time! Here's a heads up on the downloading feature: It is recommended that you RIGHT CLICK on the picture under Download Segue and save it to your computer (Mac OS X: Download linked file...; Windows: Save target as...). It is a rather large pdf file, and this will work a lot better. When the issue has been downloaded and opened, it is best viewed with the pages side by side, instead of up and down, kinda like a real magazine, right?!

Hit it Up, Rock it Out, Vol 1.

Here's a taste of what the Segue staff has been listening to lately:

1. Mexico - Brandtson. A little bit power pop, a little bit rock and roll. And catchy chorus to boot.

2. Stuntman - Kasabian. Disco enfused Britpop. Good for both rockers and dance floors.

3. When You Were Young - The Killers. The Killers' newest single. If you haven't seen the video, check it out.

4. The Swish - The Hold Steady. Good, American rock and roll. Enough to make you get up and jump around.

5. Just A Thought - Gnarls Barkley. A diversion from the usual "craziness" of the newest hip/hop duos.

6. Fear Made the World Go Round - The Dears. Toning it down a bit, The Dears paint a lush and contemplative background.

7. I Hate Everything (But You) - Derek Webb. A great song for after a long and stressful day.

8. Like Eating Glass - Bloc Party. You'll be hooked after the opening bass riffs from Britain's indie sensation.

9. I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor - Arctic Monkeys. Another one from across the pond, rocking through & through

10. Wasted One - Cary Brothers. Singer/Songwriter extraodinaire.

11. Steady, As She Goes - The Raconteurs. Jack White joins with indie-rockers The Greenhornes.

12. Hold You in My Arms - Ray LaMontagne. Canadian songwriting at it's best. Great mellow guitar infused with almost Rod Stewart-like vocals.

They hear sins, not tragedies: A Segue discussion

This was brought to my attention some time ago by my good bud Ryan: "Has anyone else noticed when God's name is used in vain on the radio, they only bleep out God, and not damn?"

I had never noticed this, nor put much thought into it until the other day when I heard Panic! at the Disco's "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" catchy chorus....

"I'd chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a @*%damn door?!"

So I tried to think of all the reasons why they would bleep out the word God. My first impression was maybe it's much cooler to cut out references to God. Or perhaps someone just needed to break up the phrase as a whole to save their butts from a lawsuit. Either way, I think someone has lost the whole sense of why most cuss words are taken out of radio songs in general.

I'm curious to know what others think about this. Let this be the first Segue discussion...

13 Days Till Launch...

We're getting excited for our launch! Things are coming together slowly but surely. Today we had an interview with Jonathan Herron, pastor and cofounder of Catalyst Church here in Kent. Catalyst is a non-denominational church plant with the goal of reaching one of the most un-churched areas in the country. But...you'll have to read the article for the full story. We had an hour- and-half talk with Jon about a little bit of everything and the story should be phenomenal.

Celebrity Sighting

Adam Brody, star of "The O.C," traveled to Kent State University to join U.S. Senate candidate Sherrod Brown. Other celebrities at the event were Luke Perry of 90210 and Brown's wife Connie Shultz, writer and Pulitzer Prize winner for The Plain Dealer. Brody spoke briefly at the event and stayed afterward to sign autographs and take pictures.
